Dialogue of the Week
On the difficulties of shopping for a mostly male audience, from Female Science Professor:
FSP: Well, I'm going to a dinner for some distinguished scientists and I'll be giving a speech, so I'm trying to find something professional yet comfortable but not too businesslike.
Saleswoman: Is it like what you'd wear to a wedding?
FSP: No.
Saleswoman: A funeral?
FSP: Maybe.

After I discovered Carhartt I've pretty much refused to wear anything else. They're incredibly comfortable. They're cool in the summer and warm in the winter. They're sewn with flat-felled seams and last forever. Their welding pants are double layered denim down to below the knees. You can mess around with rough things and they protect you. And they're mostly cotton and are quite comfortable.
Of course every now and then people ask you questions like "are you here to fix the copier?"
It's a weird thing that women have to wear a different type of outfit to a wedding than to a funeral, whereas a man can wear basically the same suit to either. This is related to why women buy more shoes than men, and spend more time preparing for events.

They sound cool. I wear jeans a lot at work unless dealing directly with clients. However, I notice that jeans are not so hardwearing any more. Levi's are now made from thin cloth and wear out quickly (going threadbare at the knees) after minimal work and a few washing cycles.
And another use for Carhartt pants. They're cat claw proof.
The business next door, Harvey's Repair, has brought in two "free range" kittens in order to help keep the smaller-than-cat critter population down.
His kittens have found a way to sneak into my ethanol plant and now hunt there as well. They are exceedingly friendly. Perhaps the recent cold weather has something to do with this.
