Without realising it, I submitted a paper some months ago to a respectable journal that uses blind refereeing. As far as I know, this is the first time I have sent a paper for blind review. Yesterday I was told that, with minor changes, the paper was accepted for publication. For the first time in my life, I found that the referee's report was constructive and polite. The world indeed works in mysterious ways.

Tommaso's idea was good!
People working with people and having emotional IQ much higher than that of a typical scientist have learned that people tend to make their decisions on basis of simple good-bad emotional associations. These people are completely aware that they must control their emotional reactions, and that is difficult but possible.
People able to do complex logical deductions and hundred page long calculations are too often emotional cavemen and not even aware how irrational their decision making is. Even with a little bit higher level of self awareness in this respect they could not be so incredibly cruel and oppressive towards their colleagues.
Maybe scientists should learn in their student days or earlier that they might have -let us say not the highest possible emotional IQ- and should be encouraged to develop it;-). Emotional intelligence tests for entertainment purposes?
For the sake of professional consistency, blind reviewing of scientific papers is the only way it should be done.

It is a real shame that talented people like yourself, Matti or Carl are generally kept in the "dark" and prevented from having a voice above many others. It is also sad to see how mediocrity in scientific research continues to be promoted with such impunity nowadays...
