Still Down South

As the nice lady at Air New Zealand said to me, in sympathy at my status as an undesirable alien, at least I can enjoy more of the summer. My little cabin in the garden has been very comfortable. But next week it is probably time to move on, so if no visa appears I will head down south again to Wanaka, from where it is easy enough to catch a bus back to Christchurch.

Hi Tommaso. Well, to be honest, it has been bothering me for some time. I can think of many reasons why they might not like me, although none of them justify denying me a visa, and hence the only chance of a career that I will ever get.

This is really beyond the pale. From the quality of your posts anyone can tell that you are an honest scientist and mathematician. Why are the lesser educated pushing others around? Policies like this are ruining the United Kingdom.

You are always welcome to stay here in the US.

The sad thing is that in this particular case the reason for delay is actually that rules have been changed in *favour* of academic related visas. The Wellington Consulate are being a pain in the arse since they don't like changes of rules. From an email I got: "... UK Borders agency are well aware of the problems with the Wellington Consulate." So it's a matter of UK Borders agency sorting Wellington out. The university is now trying push them on this, ...

But one shouldn't take these things personal; it's a power game among members of the species of administrators, which unfortunately causes highly distressing collateral damage.

Yes, Bob, childish games is pretty much what I would have guessed.
